Bridging Programmes

Entry requirements

You must meet certain academic and English language standards to be admitted on to the Certificate in Foundation Studies. These are:

Academic

You need to have a level of education equivalent to New Zealand Year 12. Visit our academic entry requirements page to find out what this is equivalent to in your country.

Whatever undergraduate degree you wish to undertake you must also have a level of Mathematics proficiency equivalent to NCEA level one in the New Zealand system. Students below this level will be required to take the BRDG 018 Statistics: Data and Probability elective as part of their Foundation Studies programme. If you choose the Science option you should have a good background in the relevant Science subjects.

English language

If you wish to undertake the Science or Business streams you must have:

  • IELTS Academic score of 5.5, with 5.0 or better in every band; or
  • TOEFL paper-based score of 520 and TWE 4.0; or
  • TOEFL internet-based score of 68, with listening no less than 17, reading no less than 17 and writing no less than 12; or
  • Successfully completed our EAP2 course.

If you wish to undertake the Arts stream you must have:

  • IELTS Academic score of 5.5, with no less than 6.0 in reading and writing and no less than 5.5 in listening and speaking; or
  • TOEFL paper-based score of 550 and TWE 4.5; or
  • TOEFL internet-based score of 80, with listening no less than 19, reading no less than 19 and writing no less than 19.
  • Successful completion of our EAP2 course with an overall B grade.
