Academic Writing Assessment (AWA)
The University of Canterbury’s Academic Writing Assessment (AWA) is a diagnostic designed to assess students’ skills in understanding academic prose and writing effectively in formal English. Assessment feedback provides a clear evaluation of students’ current writing ability and indicates the areas of support required by individual students. This early intervention encourages participants to make use of the available academic support services. The resulting implication is that early diagnosis followed by targeted and focused support optimises success by maintaining student engagement and academic progression.
