Grammar Studio

This course aims to provide an in-depth review of key areas of grammar and sentence structure that can improve and strengthen the ability of the participants to use English effectively. The sessions are student focused: participants are encouraged to work collaboratively in both giving and receiving feedback on the accuracy of their written language use.

Grammar Studio is a weekly meeting of students interested in working collaboratively on their writing. The meetings are aimed at raising students’ awareness of the rules of English sentence structure and grammar.

Each week, two or three students will be asked to provide a piece of their own writing (usually one to two paragraphs) that they feel could be improved; in pairs or small groups, students will then discuss ways in which the piece can be reworked. In this way, everyone can participate and benefit from the shared discussion. Also, ad hoc queries and uncertainties about the use of English can be brought to the class for discussion and elucidation.
