Learning Preparation and Support

Learning Skills

Speaking Clearly

Public speaking is often considered a stressful activity; however, such anxiety can be reduced through practice. To give a successful presentation, it is important to produce the kind of voice which makes a favourable impression on the audience. This course aims to boost confidence in delivering an oral presentation and offers practical advice on speaking clearly and checking voice projection, posture, hand-eye body movements and facial expression.

Students will be asked to present a part of their oral presentation (3-5 minute talk). This will be followed by constructive feedback from the learning advisor and the group participants. There will be discussion on what worked and areas that could be improved. This might include speech delivery, pace, tone, pronunciation, articulation, sentence stress, rhythm and intonation. Group numbers for each session will be low so that the practice environment is non-threatening and supportive.
